Artist Statement

My sculpture and other works focus on the delicate balance between nature versus human society and technology. The duality of this relationship is explored in both materials and subject matter. The combination of the two factions produce mysterious yet familiar forms. For example, both feathered helmets and chestnut pods encased in carpet tacks serve as a proverbial "call-to-arms" for environmental protection. Human figures shaped from twigs and branches offer a less heavy-handed reminder of our covenant with mother nature.

In my art, I strive to replicate the animated quality that all living things possess. That is what makes nature beautiful. My job as an environmental artist is to capture that beauty in my work while instilling a message into it. - M.L.

"dOse oF TaLenT": Kay Hartung

the opening reception for 'far and near' at Fountain Street Fine ArtSaturday, feb 7, 5-7.
installation at fountain street fine art
Kay Hartung’s captivating work is inspired by the microscopic and biological world, which she interprets with pastels, collage, encaustic and her love of color, pattern and texture. Interested in art at a young age, Kay studied fibers and textiles in college and grad school. One can see her textile sensibility is her current body of work. Her pieces are visual adventures in color, shape and line which she achieves building up layers of fabric, shellac, encaustic and other materials. Here is a little from Kay’s artist’s statement: I have been looking at electron microscope photographs and am inspired by the abstract organic shapes and intense color of this hidden world. I imagine the energy and interactions that go on in the body and the mind to produce action and thought. I am exploring the connections between science and art; conscious of the profound effects that these minute biological forms have on the universe.

and so to begin . . . "dOse oF TaLenT": Lisa Barthelson

I have realized i LOVE to share!! i love sharing a book that i'm enchanted by, or share a new recipe by inviting friends over to try it.
i love sharing interesting places and undiscovered beauty.
and i especially LOVE to share inspiring and interesting art and artists.
this love motivated me to start a series of posts on FB that i called, dose of talent, and i LOVED posting the works of contemporary artist that had caught my attentions.  but alas, there were a few life events caused me to take a break,  but i'm back baby! in fact i feel so strongly about continuing
my "dOse oF TaLenT"  that i have created this blog.

here i plan to share a few photos of an artist's work, along with links to where you can find more information about that "dOse oF TaLenT" artist.
i intend to be brief, because last time i undertook my '"dOse oF TaLenT", the entries  became longer and longer (because i had so much i wanted to say and share) and the amount of time it took to post made it impossible to continue.
and as the name suggests it is a dose of what these creatives can do.  and i used that word 'creatives' because i plan to expand this sampling to more than visual artists, as our world is full of some many souls, following their passions and producing works that need to be shared.

and so to begin . . .

Lisa Barthelson

Lisa Barthelson. Lisa is a woman of many, many talents; environment sculpture, print making, mixed media, encaustic. You name it, Lisa can make something amazing out of it. This fact is proven time and time again with her 'Family Debris Series'. Also last year she started a daily series called 'circling round' where she posts a photograph invoking the idea of circles with a haiku poem. Here is a tiny sampling of her work, listed below are link to see more of her work. She is also exhibiting with Kay Hartung at  Fountain Street Fine Art, the opening is this Saturday.
